North Babylon is the inland, family-neighborhood half of Babylon — Belmont Lake State Park at its center and grid streets of postwar homes on either side of Deer Park Avenue. Between Belmont Lake State Park and the Southern State Parkway the housing shifts from 1950s Capes and ranches around Belmont Lake to larger Colonials on the wooded streets near the Southern State, with 1960s splits and high-ranches off Deer Park Avenue in between — three different jobs for a lighting crew.

On a sheltered grid street, the display is judged against the house next door, not the weather. Strands are custom-cut to the eave for identical spacing corner to corner, clipped to the gutter with no nails. Belmont Lake's surrounding streets have more mature trees than most of the South Shore — front-yard oaks and maples are worth wrapping here.
