Between Old Westbury Gardens and Wheatley Road the housing shifts from estate properties on two-acre-plus wooded lots to converted carriage houses from the Phipps-era estates, with large new builds behind gates around New York Institute of Technology campus in between — three different jobs for a lighting crew.

Here's what we've learned lighting Old Westbury: estate-scale properties get pathway and gate-post lighting on their own circuit, with specimen trees wrapped to full height. Wooded lots don't fight the weather much — the challenge here is reaching the trees that are worth lighting without running cords across the lawn. So tree wraps, driveway pathway lights, and the roofline each get their own circuit and timer, laid out on the design visit.
